Eatmoretoadstools is a website primarily dedicated to wild,
cultivated, edible and medicinal fungi and plants. However, anything else found to be
interesting is fair game. This will
usually relate to mushrooms or plants in one way or another, but not always.
Who is the
pointy-headed pseudo-intellectual behind Eatmoretoadstools?
That would be me, Eatmore Toadstools. Of course, that is not my real name.
Why are you hiding
behind a pseudonym?
Because I can!
No, there is a reason. I am an economist/policy wonk in my
alternate life, with a social science PhD.
Most people who have a personal relationship with me, either online or in
the real world, know who I am. However,
I do not want any Tom, Dick or Harriet who runs my name through a search engine
in order to see what expertise I have in the social sciences to get bogged down
in fungal matters. Once people get to know me, I have no problem sharing this
other life. Some might even appreciate
that I am multi-talented.
If you want to know my real name, just ask.
Is anyone else
involved in creating the website?
Not at present. I am
not the world's greatest artist and website designer, but I am a reasonably
decent writer.
Does Eatmoretoadstools
offer any services to the public?
Yes. The Workshops page describes workshops and
presentations I can do for your program or festival. Travel expenses and an honorarium are
generally required. I do some charity
events without charge.
I will also attempt to identify mushrooms if you send me
several photographs of the mushroom in question and a description of the
habitat in which it was found. There is
no charge for this service.
Please note that I am not a professionally trained
mycologist, and there are many people who are much more qualified to identify
fungi than I. A photograph is a two
dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional object and will never be as good
as seeing the mushroom itself. If I
cannot identify the mushroom, I will tell you. Even if I can, it is possible
that I will be mistaken. In any case, you are always at your own risk when it
comes to consuming any fungi that you cannot positively identify on your own.
What is
Eatmoretoadstools' policy in regards to illegal plants, mushrooms and
substances refined from these plants and fungi?
Eatmoretoadstools does not promote the sales or use of
anything that is illegal and does not carry advertisements of any company that
does. Personally, I believe it is a huge
waste of resources to prosecute anyone who consumes anything. While advocating changes in such laws is a
fundamental right under the Constitution of the United States, the
Eatmoretoadstools site is not dedicated to such reform. As noted on the Homepage, I have bigger
toadstools to fry. There are many other
forums in cyberspace that are better equipped to discuss such issues.
What is
Eatmoretoadstool's privacy policy?
I swear on a sack of morels that your name and information
will neither be sold nor given away to anyone unless you specifically request
that I forward it to a third party.
What is
Eatmoretoadstool's Google privacy policy?
Google requires those who carry
its advertisements to post this on their sites:
Google, as a third party vendor,
uses cookies to serve any of its ads placed on this site. Google's use of
the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to users based on their visit
to this site and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of the use
of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy
policy.
Does Eatmore Toadstools carry third party vendor advertisements on its
site?
Yes, it does. This site takes a lot of effort and some
expenditure. When you purchase something
from a third party vendor by clicking through an ad on this site, I make a
small commission. I select these ads
myself and many are companies that I have purchased products from for years.
Others are, as best I can determine, reputable companies that are selling
products relevant to what might interest visitors to this site.
If you have any suggestions for additional companies for me to affilite with, please let me know. There is an entire page that includes most of my sponsors and advertisers, as well as ads on other pages and the blog.
Will clicking any of these ads result in malicious pop-ups, landing on
a porno site, or take you to a site where you do not wish to be?
My web host, Draknet (also
advertised on the site), has very good security. I only deal with reputable advertisers and
companies that handle the web advertising for many clients. I do not carry porno ads, ads for illegal
products, and get-rich-quick schemes, nor do I link to such businesses.
Miscreants are always looking for
weaknesses. There are no guarantees in
life. But my site is as safe as any you
will find in the commercial world.
Are there other ways to support the Eatmoretoadstools website?
Yes. You may donate through the Paypal link on the homepage. This is not a tax-favored contribution because this is not a charity or non-profit site (even though "profit" is rather scarce at present).
Are visitors allowed to post on the Eatmoretoadstools blog?
I would encourage you to do so, early and often.
Why does Eatmoretoadstools have an entire page devoted to grits?
It's a tough job, but somebody's
got to do it.
What is the most unusual mushroom dish you've ever eaten?
Ben & Jerry's chocolate
cordyceps and vanilla cordyceps ice cream, served at the Telluride Mushroom
Festival in the late 1990's. Jerry made
the ice cream and Paul Stamets provided the cordyceps.
